Конечно, речь идет о Tesla Model S в самой мощной версии P85, которую превратили в автономный концепт – Rinspeed XchangE. Снаружи концепт XchangE отличается новым аэродинамическим обвесом, дюймовыми дисками Borbet и окрасом лимонных оттенков. Но главное в этом концепте далеко не внешность, а переосмысленная концепция салона. Сам Франк Риндеркнехт считает, что салон автономного автомобиля должен разительно отличаться от салона привычных автомобилей, а это означает, что водитель не должен будет таращиться на дорогу и смотреть на виляющий.

The entire powertrain, including the battery pack and electric motor, is all Tesla. Rinspeed left the Model S mostly intact, except for the interior alterations. That is an extremely ugly color combo. But the getting rid of the nose cone, the only ugly part of the s imho, was a good move.

And the sliding steering wheel, and assumingly pedals, would solve the issue of left and right hand drive. Think what you could do with this autonomous drive feature. The nosecone was meant as an innocuous cultural crutch for conservative customers. That said, this concept Model S demonstrates strong enough styling and form to prove the car does not need a nosecone.

Maybe the nosecone will go away when the car gets a refresh and Tesla has built more market presence? I hate the front of the S, i cant help but see a Ford front end when i look at the S. Is it functionally autonomous? If not, what is the breakthrough here? I mean Rinspeed might as well glue wings to the side and claim it was an autonomous plane-car.

Is that Kuka-labeled device available now? Ever heard of plugless inductive charging? Do you miss having a handcrank to start your ICE car? This whole concept is a little bit ridiculous, if you dont want to drive, take a taxi. Plugs are a temporary way of charging and will be out in a few years. Tell that to people who soil their pants with the cable on rainy days….

Artificial vision is more than capable of lining up a plug with its dedicated socket these days, so it is almost trivial to get that part right. The only things left to address are safety and durability, and even those look like relatively easy targets at this point. Michael, i dont know how old you are but, you have probably been driving ICE cars for years. You know how inefficient ICE cars are right?

And you probably never raised an eyebrow about that. Like it or not, i think they will very likely go mainstream within a few years. Between you and me, do we really want cables and robots everywhere you park? Cables are a tripping hazard. Can you just imagine, once we all go electric, public parkings full of cords on the ground.
